The Last Days Of Louis XIV – August 19, 1715
It has been ten days since Louis XIV complained of a pain in his leg the first time. He passed another restless night and did not fall asleep before three o’clock in the morning. Like the previous day, Louis was rolled to the apartment of Madame de Maintenon in a wheelchair, where he listened to a little concert at six o’clock. It was the last time he would leave his rooms alive.
What is thought to be sciatica still torments the King greatly. Fagon considers to send for some waters from Bourbonne, thought to be good for the health, but can not really decide if he should or not. Georges Mareschal and Fagon have different opinions on the King’s health. While Mareschal thinks the matter is serious, Fagon does not. Mareschal, and others, believe the King suffers of fevers each night, explaining the thirst, but Fagon can not be persuaded it is so.
