1 January, his Majesty names Monsieur Colbert surintendant des bâtiments. Said position was previously held by Monsieur de Ratabon. His Majesty, wearing the grand collier, then attends mass at the Feuillants in company of the fifty Chevaliers de l’ordre.

3 January, fête de Sainte Geneviève, their Majesties travel to the Abbaye-Sainte-Geneviève for mass in honour of the patron saint of Paris.

6 January, épiphanie, his Majesty has decided to replace Monsieur Créquy with Monsieur d’Anglure de Bourlemont, Archevêque de Toulouse, in the Roman Rota regarding the issues of Pisa with the Holy See. His Majesty later invites their Majesties the Queen and Queen-Mother, Monsieur and Madame as well as a great number of dames de la cour for entertainments and snacks.

7 January, her Majesty invites to a ball in her grand cabinet, during which messenger arrives to announce the demise of Madame Royale (Chrestienne de France, Duchesse de Savoie), his Majesty’s aunt.

8 January, his Majesty receives Monsieur de Mecklembourg (Christian Ludwig I) in the Louvre with all the public honours that are only applied to sovereigns. It is rumoured Monsieur de Mecklembourg has an interest in the widowed Duchesse de Châtillon (Élisabeth-Angélique de Montmorency-Bouteville).

12 January, his Majesty grants an audience to the Comte Strozzi, envoy of his Imperial Majesty.

13 January, their Majesties wear mourning today for Madame Royale.

19 January, their Majesties receive the ambassadors of Spain and Venice, who have come to bring their condolences upon the death of Madame Royale.

28 January, his Majesty receives Monsieur Carroccio, ambassador of Savoie, who comes in company of the Comte de Ricaldon, sent as envoy by the Duc de Savoie.

30 January, his Majesty departs for #Versailles, where he will entertain their Majesties the Queen and Queen-Mother, Monsieur, the Duc d’Enghien, Madame la Comtesse de Soissons, and selected dames de la cour and treat them to dinner.
