1 July, his Majesty reviews his gardes françaises et suisses, mousquetaires, gendarmes, chevau-légers and gardes du corps. His Majesty has honoured Monsieur Le Brun today by declaring him Premier peintre du Roi.
3 July, his Majesty receives Cardinal Chigi, who has arrived incognito at Fontainebleau and is nephew of Pope Alexander VII.
9 July, their Majesties enjoy the summer at Fontainebleau with long promenades, hunts and musique. It is expected Madame will go into labour very soon.
16 July, Madame has given birth to a son today, who has been styled Duc de Valois and received a simplified baptism in presence of their Majesties. Monsieur is very proud to have a healthy heir.
19 July, his Majesty gives the Abbaye Notre-Dame-La-Royale de Maubuisson to Louise-Hollandine du Palatinat, daughter Frederick V of the Palatinate and Elizabeth Stuart.
27 July, it is reported his Majesty’s cousin, the Duc de Beaufort, has landed at Djidjelli and one of Monsieur de La Rochefoucauld’s sons was wounded gravely during the landing.
29 July, his Majesty receives the papal legate, Cardinal Chigi, who has come to publicly apologise to his Majesty for the happenings of 20 August 1662, commonly called the Corsican Guard Affair.
30 July, his Majesty receives Cardinal Chigi once more and thus invites him to the chase and a ballet. His Majesty has honoured the Duc de Chaulnes today, by making him capitaine-lieutenant of his chevau-légers and his garde.
31 July, his Majesty invites Cardinal Chigi and the court to Monsieur Corneille’s new play, le couronnement d’Othon, which is performed for the first time today by the Troupe Royale.
